SRINAGAR, the Summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir state, is geographically located in the center of the valley of Kashmir. It is one of the prime tourist centers in India.
The city is one of the most beautiful garden city of the world located at an altitude of 5200 feet above the sea level , 340 8' N, 740 83' E, it is famous for its picturesque sites, sweet water lakes, pleasant gardens, mountains views and tourist places.
The city presently has a population of around 13 lakhs and spread over an area of 300 Sq km
Srinagar was originally founded during the third century BC by Emperor Ashoka
Famous travellor Hauin Tsang visited the city during that period and also attended Buddhist conference in Srinagar.
King parvarasena II built a large part of the city in 79-139 A.D .
