Works Information

The Srinagar Municipal Corporation besides other functions has to provide the civic amenities covering basic infrastructure.

Accordingly, the following types of works are being undertaken and looked after by the Corporation through its Works Department, which is headed by the Joint Commissioner(Work)/ Superintendent Engineer :-

The major roads including approaches & streets that build the road network of the City are being undertaken and looked after by the Roads & Buildings and other Departments. While the Srinagar Municipal Corporation is building connectivity of the interior (households and other properties with the streets and approach roads of the localitieswithin the Municipal limits. The Corporation is accordingly in practice of developing, maintaining and up keeping of the lanes /bye-Lanes for the Srinagar City. The lanes/bye-lanes can have least width in the dense populated areas or may have reasonable width for passage of light and or heavy vehicles in the new areas depending upon the existing vicinity. This component even if seems small in nature but has an immense purpose and importance with respect to the public convenience at door step. Presently the Corporation adopts special specifications in its execution and is also using I-Shaped inter locked tiles for surface treatment, which in turn provide smoother surfaces and beautifies the interior areas of City. These inter locked tiles are mostly 50 mm thick and M-15 concrete.

The next majorprovision for the people of the City is to develop, maintain and up-keepthe Semi-Deep /Covered Drains, as without a proper drainage the roads/ lanes became water logged and create difficulties for the public and also damage the status of the lane/road. Therefore, (except certain pockets, being looked after by UEED) Corporation constructs and maintains such drains for convenience to people. These drains are mostly constructed in the middle of the road / lane. These drains are covered with slab cover, having manholes at regular length and holes for run-off water. In interior area, where the lane width is least, surface drain in the center of the lane are being constructed/ maintained and is covered with the trash guards to make full use of the lane/by lane width for public in their passage.

The Corporation is also in the practice of constructing and maintaining the retaining/ protection walls, culverts etc. in area when there is a huge difference in the level. Where people at times have made the location like vertical cliffs, created an opportunity for huge danger / disaster for the people living there especially during rainy season for mud slides and where pedestrian face inconvenience.

The Corporation is also taking in hand several other programmesthat beautify the City.It is called Beautification of Srinagar City. The Corporation has been in the practice of identifying such spots in the City and constructing/maintaining the same. The fountains and parks etc. are the major such development made before when Srinagar Municipality was in existence.
